The Findhorn Foundation is at the heart of an international community based on spiritual values. It is a place where daily life becomes active service through awareness of ourselves, each other, nature, our environment and our times.
  The Findhorn Foundation's origins are in the community established in 1962 by Peter and Eileen Caddy and Dorothy Maclean in a caravan park near the seaside village of Findhorn, Morayshire, in northeast Scotland. They did not intend to start a community here, but were brought together as part of their individual commitment to follow God's will. Each of the founders had followed a disciplined spiritual path for a number of years before continuing their work together at Findhorn.
   The founders first came to Morayshire as managers of the Cluny Hill Hotel in Forres. They did this successfully for a number of years. Returning to the area a few years later, they settled in a caravan with a built-on extension at the Findhorn Bay Caravan Park, bringing with them Eileen and Peter's three young sons. Their early work at Findhorn included direct communication and cooperation with the kingdoms of nature. The gardens they developed in cooperation with nature attracted much interest. As people came to learn about the gardens and the principles behind them, many wanted to stay on and continue their explorations. Over time, a community of like-minded people was born. In 1970 a young American named David Spangler arrived in the community and helped to define and organize the educational processes which occurred here. A curriculum was established and the seed was planted for a "university of light".
